This species has been reported from a wide range of regions, from Britain, the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, West Africa, the eastern USA, the Caribbean, Vanuata, New Zealand and Australia. The illustrated specimen is from Geraldton, Western Australia, collected and identified by Josh Mackie. S. errata is an important fouling species.
